  • My NAUI Bio

Born in Hollywood California, Mauri spent 20 years in Latin America, having easy and convenient access to both the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans.
An avid traveler, Mauri's thousands of dives have taken him to Asia, North/Central/South America, and Europe.
In 1994 Mauri returned to the US to pursue an MBA degree in Minnesota, graduating in 1996 and moving shortly after to Massachusetts.

Academically, Mauri holds college degrees in business and English (he is also fluent in Spanish and Portuguese).
Professionally, Mauri has 20 years of experience working for Fortune 500 companies.
Mauri also founded two companies, one of which is regarded as the most active SCUBA Divers Club in Northern California (CaliDivers SCUBA Diving Club - a 501(c)7 Corporation founded in 2012).
In 2005 Mauri became a NAUI Instructor, then a NAUI Instructor Trainer, actively promoting the NAUI brand, bringing new divers into the NAUI Assistant Instructor / Divemaster / Instructor family, working closely with Jim Larsen, NAUI West Coast Territory Manager.
Some of Mauri's most famous quotes are:

"Everything begins and ends in the ocean"

"You are only a diver if you dive, and you are as good a diver as your last dive".

"Dive safely, learn to be a responsible diver, and enjoy your dives".

"I'm a minimalist: to me, SCUBA diving is nothing but a man (or woman), the ocean, and your ability to overcome your fears assisted only by minimal technology".

"The word "water" is mentioned eight times in the first 10 verses of the Bible".

"The oceans belong to us all and as such we must protect them while making sustainable use of them".
